gTLD

A gTLD (generic TLD) is a non-country extension with a generic or thematic meaning. It is also administered by a registry but follows different rules than ccTLDs.

How it differs: unlike ccTLDs, gTLDs are not tied to a country.

Example: .com, .net and .shop are gTLDs.
