Domain portfolio: structure and maintenance

In short

A domain portfolio is a collection of held domains that should be actively maintained. Sensible categories are GEO (geographic), EXP (with backlink history) and INV (with keyword value), plus regular portfolio hygiene and clear renewal decisions. As a rule of thumb, a healthy portfolio should sell roughly at least 1% per year.

Categories

  • GEO: geographic reference (region/place + product/service).
  • EXP: existing backlink history from earlier projects.
  • INV: generic keywords or value-adding features.

Portfolio hygiene

No-longer-needed domains should be handled deliberately: make visible and test, sell, park — or monetise on purpose (e.g. via ReDomain) instead of simply letting them lapse.

The renewal question

Every renewal is a cost decision. Weigh renewal costs against the sales opportunity — in detail under domain renewal.
