Expired Domain
An expired domain is a domain whose registration was not renewed. After the relevant protective period it can be registered again. Such domains are of interest because of existing history, possible backlinks and an established name.
How it differs: "expired" describes the state of the domain; "domain catching" is the process of securing it.
Example: a company drops "oldproject.de"; after the deletion period it is available again as an expired domain.
